Band Members

I would like to delete all the names of all the members of Mayers band, both past and present. This is a bio of Mayer, its not about his albums, his tour, people plays with etc. If Mayer punched out his drummer or married his roadie, that's relevant to a bio (maybe) but a listing of band members is way out of line IMO. Comments?--KeithbobTalk 17:46, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Chuck Leavell no longer plays with John Mayer. Andrew "Andy" Burton plays keys now. And Doug Pettibone plays the lapsteel and guitar. Also, Zane Carney has a major enough role to be listed as "guitar" and not "rhythm guitar." Please makes these edits since there is no other page on the internet that so clearly displays Mayer's touring band information. Source: Can be any video of John naming the players in the band. Here is one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF5ZLZCR8mc

Not done: You need to express your request in detail, like "please change X to Y", and include a reliable source. Primary sources, like a youtube video, are not reliable and this particular one has been taken down. Is there a newspaper article or announcement which mentions the band members? Please start a new request at the end of the page if you can find a better source. Thanks, Celestra (talk) 03:52, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Please change "Mayer was invited to join remaining members on the Dead & Company tour that began in October 2016." to "Mayer was invited to join remaining members on the Dead & Company tour that began in October 2015." because 2015 is the correct year and 2016 hasn't happened yet.SieverH (talk) 02:33, 21 November 2015 (UTC) SieverH (talk) 02:33, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

John Mayer has never had a #1 song, it says "daughters" was his 1st number one, it probably should read "#1 on the adult contemporary chart" Boyjenius (talk) 16:54, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

@Allthefoxes and Boyjenius: Looks like "Daughters" reached #1 on the Adult Pop Songs chart [1] and #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart [2]. Mudwater (Talk) 17:44, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

When you say he had his 1st number 1 single that implies #1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart, not the Adult Pop chart, "Daughters" only reached #19 on that chart — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boyjenius (talkcontribs) 19:00, 28 February 2016‎ (UTC)

Relationships Suggestion

Taylor Swift

I followed a link from Taylor Swift to this page only to find no reference to Taylor Swift under John Mayer. I'm think that this oversight and the fact that they each wrote songs specifically about the relationship makes this relationship worthy of inclusion in this article. There are three People Magazine citations for this relationship and more a couple more I quickly looked up [1][2][3] -- T S Ballantine (talk) 08:35, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Recent Taylor Swift edits

Because Taylor Swift and and John Mayer are still alive, the threshold of verifiability for personal information (per WP:BLP and especially WP:NOR) is higher. Therefore, she is not listed as a former girlfriend because even though it may seem obvious that they dated, they have never said they have and concluding that they did is original research. Additionally, the addition to the article as his former girlfriend has a citation behind it that doesn't say that, and that citation was added to verify a different fact. That said, the controversy surrounding them is thoroughly covered in the article, which leaves the reader to draw their own conclusions. Anyone who continues to re-add to the list of former girlfriends or continues to revert the current edits without proper citations will have to be reported for violation of 3 reversion and BLP.--Esprit15d • talkcontribs 01:55, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

The show airs every Sunday night at 11PM Et. and features many guests of which are usually his friends. Incorrect statement in "Controversies" paragraph. Change 1: ...an assertion which Mayer has neither confirmed nor denied. -> ...an assertion which Mayer has denied.

Not sure if this is necessary but here is the supporting evidence: Despite popular belief, Mayer has stated that the song "Paper Doll" was not about Taylor Swift. During his Instagram show "Current Mood", on March 23rd 2019, he stated "When paper doll came out, 100% of the people believed it was about somebody, and the person that they thought it was about brought a certain amount of superficial pop-culture back-and-forth about it that I think kind of shat on the song. But the song was not about that person and I could never tell anybody because that would breaking my rule that songwriters don't say who the song is about or not about...". While he doesn't explicitly name drop Taylor Swift in this statement, he makes it clear beforehand that he just doesn't want to create controversy by bringing up names. He states "Before I answer this question, I want to let you now I'm a real see-something say-something guy in my own feelings, and I got a little spark inside me that wants to tell the truth about something, but I don't really feel like dealing with having told the truth about it. Those are two separate timelines. Being truthful and having been truthful are two very different realities. Having been truthful gives you nothing when you start reading shit about it 3 days later". I believe this provides enough context to safely assume that he was referring to Swift and furthermore that the song is not about her.

Please change "Mayer formed Dead & Company in 2015" to "Mayer joined members of the Grateful Dead to tour as Dead & Company"

To insinuate he created something that existed a decade prior to his birth is rude, incorrect, and insulting to the history and career of the established and founding members. Dr.AndreaB (talk) 02:14, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Done. I've changed that sentence to say, "In 2015 three former members of the Grateful Dead joined with Mayer and two other musicians to form the band Dead & Company." Your suggestion was a good one, although speaking for myself, I'm slow to take offense about what I find on Wikipedia. Mudwater (Talk) 23:44, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Should it not be Mayer joined forces with three former members of the Grateful Dead? As it was Bobby Weir who invited him after they had played together? It still comes over as 'joining with Mayer' rather than Mayer joining experienced older highly respected musicians? No disrespect to Mayer, who I think is a huge talent, but Bob, Bill and Mickey were playing before he was born!Muso805 (talk) 16:51, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
