The victim hands were nailed to the cross bar. The nails iron or wooden pegs would be driven through the wrists, not the palms (hands), as the palm would not support the body weight. It would tear and the victim would fall off the Greek/Roman Cross. Many Greek scholars define the cross shaped like the Greek capital Tau (T).
