Discussion[edit]

I have moved this article from David "Tank" Abbott to David Abbott (Mixed martial artist) before because "Tank" was his nickname so that I thought it should not be contained in the name of the title. I have a question.Do you think it is suitable that the title can contain middle name of people like David "L" Abbott. In my oppinion, I suggest to move this article again from David L. I am in favor of moving to David Abbott (mixed martial artist). Reason 1: Google indicates that "David L. Abbott" or ""David L Abbott" is not commonly used to refer to this individual. Search ("David Abbott" Tank) returns 611 hits[1]. Search ("David L Abbott" Tank) returns 20 hits[2]. Reason 2:I am familiar with "David Abbott" but not "David L Abbott", nor have I heard of this reference.Shawnc 09:41, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tank is David Abbott's nick name, isnt it? I think Tank should not be in the title of article. The name of this article should be

  • David Abbott (professional wrestler)
  • David Abbott (fighter)

Nicknames are acceptable, according to this guideline:"The most used name to refer to a person is generally the one that Wikipedia will choose as page name, even if this sounds awkward for those seeing the name the first time." (Didn't you create Musashi (kickboxer)? That's a nickname too).

Bench Press[edit]

The press was NOT improperly done. It was not done in a sanctioned powerlifting competition, it was done in the gym. If you have ever seen powerlifters work out, they often "bounce" when benching. Try it if you think it's much easier. The point is that they're working explosiveness. DB Dec 2, 2005

Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people) states that the page should at "the name that is most generally recognisable" and "

the name that is unambiguous with the name of other articles". Tank Abbott fulfils both of these criteria. Furthermore, Abbott does not have "various gimmick names", he has one, Tank. I don't think you've made a strong enough case to justify keeping the article at a name that has 302 Google hits compared to one with 81,700. The section under "Nick names, pen names, stage names, cognomens" states, "The most used name to refer to a person is generally the one that Wikipedia will choose as page name, even if this sounds awkward for those seeing the name the first time".   • Without quotes those searches would skew that way simply because David is a much more common word than tank. David: 504 million hits. tank: 114 million. Fighting Style[edit]

Pitfighting is NOT a fighting style. Its a another term to described MMA aka Vale Tudo aka Freestyle fighting which is a SPORT which contains a variety of FIGHTING STYLES.

His style could accurately be described as 'Brawling' since he generally expresses no characteristics of the 'traditional' martial arts when fighting.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.30.29.141 (talk • contribs)

Abbott can call his style anything he wants to, there is no authority that judges what constitutes a valid style in or out of martial arts. Actually the wikipedia page on Abbot is wrong on this point but for another reason. Tank Abbot himself, said in UFC 11, and I quote from the DVD at 06:05 during an interview with Don Wison Don: "You're billing yourself as the street fighter" Tank replies "It's more aptly put that I'm a street fighter, not some made up name like 'pit fighting' that some other people came up with'. The claims made about Abbotts wrestling and boxing credentials are unsourced and, I think, dubious. I would prefer that information to be properly referenced to some credible source rather than just stated. Orphaned references in Tank Abbott[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Tank Abbott's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
