Royal Engineers in British Columbia - new article?

I respect the existing article and the heritage of the corps; I'm just wondering what to do about titling and content of a splinter-article on the Royal Engineers in British Columbia, where their presence officially and thereafter as settlers (as some took their pay-outs there) is an important part of the history of the mainland colony and part of the local symbology/imagery. I would have just added a paragraph but given the tight content of the current article it's evident to me someone's been very efficient in compiling it. What would be the proper format for articles on the RE's careers abroad? e.g. Col. Richard Clement Moody was Governor of the Falkland Islands before he came to British Columbia to assist Governor James Douglas in the taming of the Mainland Colony's restless Yankees (an inappropriate term; many were from the South and it was just before the Civil War). Anyone qualified on regimental history who might want to write this would be welcome to do so; it's not my field; a friend takes part in a historical reconstruction group based around the Royal Engineers as they were in BC; there's a website which I'll come back and throw the link here (in the article) at least; if there's someone watching this site who's interested in the material I can point them to, don't hesitate to ask. I've got other stuff to write in the meantime; I came here looking for a link to the Royal Engineers, not to write about them.Skookum1 07:03, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

PS to previous post: they were in Canton, presumably as part of the Opium Wars, before being transferred to the newly-minted Colony of British Columbia in 1858; that particular group of them were, anyway (Trutch had been L-G of the Falklands, though...). So it's not just BC that a pre-modern history of these guys is needed for; lots of details available for any current RE Wikistorians that want to take on the task, as well as contacts to the "historical reconstructionists" here who wear the duds and camp out old-style at places like Fort Langley, British Columbia. Anyway, just a heads-up as well as a please and thank you, if anyone can at least come up with some basics or suggest a title/start an article addressing historical engagements/assignments of the REs in the Americas, Asia, Africa, etc.Skookum1 10:01, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, me again/ I added an external link The Columbia Detachment of the Royal Engineers - but am shying away from writing an article on the detachment as I'm not experienced with military articles; just hoping someone here might take an interest in setting up the military-article outline, I can add in quite a bit of history as to their particular activities; a number of the members of the detachment already have bio articles out there, adn they surface endless in early BC history articles. They're an extremely imporrant part of early colonial history so at some point an article Columbia Detachment of the Royal Engineers or the Royal Engineers in British Columbia is giong to exist as an article, or should; advice at least on which of those two titles is more approrpriate. History could do with expanding to ilustrate the RE role, AVRE would be a good place to start - 79th Armoured Division, Churchill tank etc. GraemeLeggett 16:55, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Advice on name choice

I'm about to create a bio for "Sapper Duffey/Duffy", a Royal Engineer who froze to death in British Columbia during his exploration duties there in 1861. Please see this about which name-spelling to use. Apparently the regimental roster/records may show the Duffy spelling; but his colleagues named a lake after him with the Duffey spelling. Royal Engineers or Blackheath?

There appears to be a slight contradiction... the Royal Engineers article states that Charles Arthur Crompton and Charles Sherrard were representives of The Army/Royal Engineers, whereas the players' own articles and the 1870–71 Home Nations rugby union matches article states that they were representatives of Blackheath F.C.. The 1871–72 Home Nations rugby union matches article (Francis d'Aguilar, & Charles Sherrard of England, and Frederick T. Maxwell, & Henry Renny-Tailyour of Scotland), and 1873–74 Home Nations rugby union matches article (William Stafford of England), specifically identify the rugby footballers representing The Royal Engineers rather than a club side. Orphaned references in Royal Engineers

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Royal Engineers's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
