Thanks for adding the WikiTravel Link. Another great Wiki invention.

12/15/05: Cletus: Great updates about the bridge. Does anyone have any information about the history of Masan (ancient->today)? -cookiesap

are you sure it's si, not shi?

Yes, see McCune-Reischauer and Revised Romanization of Korean. The use of shi for 시 is largely unique to the debased form of McCune-Reischauer which was used in South Korea for some years prior to 2000. -- Visviva 07:44, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

I would like to thank the people who have added so much information to this article. However, the current state of this article leaves much to be desired. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not a travel or employment guide, nor a vehicle for promotional activity. -- Visviva 07:44, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The site is now cleaned up. I would like to thank you all for your contributions.

Not here[edit]

Wikipedia is not an expat blog. Those who wish to add content about non-notable, non-verifiable neighborhood fixtures should find a friendlier website, such as Galbijim. Those who actually want to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Masan should start by reviewing the tutorial and what Wikipedia is not. -- Visviva 22:48, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While I largely agree with you, I would like to bring up the discussion of what to include in terms of what qualifies for a travel blog and what qualifies for wikipedia.

Here's an excerpt from the what Wikipedia is not that you referenced.

Travel guides. An article on Paris should mention landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, but not the telephone number or street address of your favorite hotel or the price of a café au lait on the Champs-Élysées. Such details are, however, very welcome at Wikitravel, but note that due to license incompatibility you cannot copy content wholesale unless you are the copyright holder.

Thus specific restaurants falls into "grey zone", as long as one doesn't include specific details. And all expats in Masan know that All That Jazz is more than just a bar - but an institution for foreigners. Thank you cookiesap 03:18, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I think you are right that local landmarks can be included. However, there is a key Wikipedia policy at play here, specifically Verifiability. If a reliable source provides this information, and that source is cited in the article, the information can and should stay. If not, unfortunately, it must go. There is a problem here in that few (if any) sources that are considered reliable for citation on Wikipedia deal extensively with expat life in Korea outside Seoul. However, if you can find such a source, more power to you.  :-) Cheers, -- Visviva 07:17, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Visviva: thanks for your reply. What if I, first-person, has an experience or inherently know something (Ive been to "all that jazz", etc). Do I need to make another website and write down the information? Cheers//Cookiesap

I'm afraid not even that will work, since personal websites and other self-published materials are not generally considered reliable sources. I don't know what the situation is in Masan, but some cities have international houses or foreigner-aid groups that publish local guides; those might be acceptable as sources. Otherwise, I would really recommend Galbijim, a vibrant and very useful wiki targeted specifically at folks like us, as the best place for this information... Best, -- Visviva 03:34, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So wikipedia has no way of capturing the author's knowledge, such as if Tom Thompson goes China, notices the wall is long, and writes that in wikipedia? All knowledge must be cited from a "proper" source? Thanks for your clarification.///cookiesap

That's about the size of it. See Wikipedia:Verifiability for details. This is, I fear, the downside of being "an encyclopedia anyone can edit" -- if anyone can add information, then no information can be assumed trustworthy. Cheers, -- Visviva 04:21, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia also dosent have the population density for many cities and countrys in sq km or miles. I cant find it anywhere else either and I really need it for homework and it would be so awesome if they could add that to most of them so it could be easyer to do my homework because I thought Wikipedia and everything but I guess I was wrong.... it wouldalso help other people that need it for homework to in the 6th 7th and 8th grade. External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Masan. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
