Dubious - Evil Empire as inspiration for term[edit]

Is there any first or near-first party source on this? aka an interview with George W. Bush himself or an important member of his staff. While axis has long held clear WWII connotations, "evil" is a generic term. Furthermore, there is no former soviet nation in the original trio. -- sarysa (talk) 12:51, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like there is a conflict over whether or not this article supports the notion that "axis of evil" is derived from "Evil Empire": https://cornellsun.com/2019/10/02/johns-seventy-years-of-evil/
I assert that it does not. The word "evil" is a generic term, and furthermore there are no mentions of "Axis of evil", "Iraq", "Iran", "North Korea", nor any of those countries leaders nor George W. Bush.
A sufficient source would for this would have to be from someone involved with coining the term. Otherwise, it's just a random person's assumption that has been elevated to "fact", despite being baseless. -- sarysa (talk) 13:46, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
