Can anyone verify those Top Grossing films? A couple look very strange. Noisy 17:47, 3 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Why is it the list of highest earning films at the American box office? It should be the worldwide box office. 81.157.42.84 (talk) 15:37, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, A Clockwork Orange should be removed as the release dates are January 1972 in the UK and later in the US. Michaelpremsrirat (talk) 04:30, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Billy Jack[edit]

Billy Jack was not the highest grossing film in 1971, nor did it generate $98,000,000 in box office revenue.

Here are the correct numbers: http://www.listal.com/list/top-grossing-films-1971

Box office rentals[edit]

Theboywonder2001 has repeatedly changed the box-office rentals for Billy Jack and Fiddler on the Roof in this chart of box-office rentals, changing them to box-office grosses. As the chart title makes clear—and as I have made clear in the edit summaries—this is a list of gross rentals NOT grosses! He subsequently left a message on my talk page saying "I am doing right thing not you".

Theboywonder2001 in this case is catgeorically incorrect. Rentals was the primary metric for measuring box-office in the 1970s and Variety did not switch to box-office grosses until the 1990s. The reason rentals lists are used for earlier years is because complete lists are not available for box-office grosses. Adding a box-office gross to a list of rentals is as bonkers as adding a worldwide gross to alist of domestic grosses, or mixing currencies. It makes the list nonsensical. You can see the full top 10 rental list here, and it is available offline through Variety also.

What Theboywonder2001 is doing here is clear WP:SYNTHESIS. He is adding 2 and 2 and coming up with 5. If somebody is telling you your edit is wrong it is generally a good idea to stop what you are doing and try to understand the issue, rather than constantly re-adding information. For the sake of clarity the rental figure for Billy Jack is $32.5 million, regardless of what it's box-office gross is. Betty Logan (talk) 19:36, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why r u doing wrong things i didn't know plz check the numbers where they said billy jack is no. 1 Theboywonder2001 (talk) 19:45, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Until you understand the difference between a box-office GROSS and a box-office RENTAL it is impossible to reason with you. Box-office renatls is the historic methodology of ranking box-office. As you can see List_of_highest-grossing_films#High-grossing_films_by_year rentals were the primary metric until the mid-70s. If youn convert Billy Jack and Fiddler to a box-office gross then you have to do the same with all the other films on the list, but the data is not available. That is why the old Variety rentals lists are used for earlier years. If you continue to disrupt these lists I will be left no other choice but to report you. I am sorry ma'am 😔[edit]

I forgive you! Box-office grosses and rentals cause a lot of confusion so that is ok, I used to be confused about them myself. Betty Logan (talk) 21:23, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
