Flat Rock Community[edit]

The Flat Rock Community in Lithonia, DeKalb County, discussed in Part 1 of Henry Louis Gates's African American Lives series on PBS, should have its own article. Badagnani 06:45, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wealthiest Black County[edit]

The article states that DeKalb county is now the wealthiest black county in the country. The article for Prince George's County in Maryland states that IT is the wealthiest. Anyone have recent statistics to show which article is correct? --AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 10:39, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the median incomes from the latest figures and it appears Price George's County still has an average higher income. I'm deleting the line unless someone has another statistic to back up the claim. --AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 10:52, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Roads[edit]

Is this long list of roads necessary? It seems a bit of an overkill, IMO. AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 21:00, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The needed information of tax rates for sales, school, and roads, the political system and population density are excluded by the list of roads? Wheres the quick looks facks you need if you are researching the county. Where's the school ratings and graduation rates. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.76.64.67 (talk) 15:14, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

pronunciation[edit]

Have changed pronunciation from /dʌˈkɒb/ (du-KOB) to /dɨˈkæb/ (di-KAB). Fairly sure this is correct, but perhaps both are used? Lfh (talk) 20:02, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

-- I've never heard the former, and I'm a native of the county. Cjoshuav (talk) 14:25, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

-- I've never heard the former here either. No one says it that way. I am going to change it back. 74.92.195.65 (talk) 15:38, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Johnson Ferry link[edit]

The link to Johnson Ferry is to Johnson Ferry Road (DeKalb County), which is not a logical dis-ambiguation suffix because the road is in more than one county. Any discussion?? Georgia guy (talk) 14:14, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lakeside, Georgia[edit]

I recently learned about an area called Lakeside, Georgia that might soon be incorporated, but Wikipedia has no article. Anyone know enough about it?? Georgia guy (talk) 22:37, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lakeside, Georgia[edit]

Lakeside, Georgia is now a re-direct here. Can anyone add appropriate info relating to this proposed city in an appropriate section?? Georgia guy (talk) 01:01, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is an appropriate section, because there are no reliable sources that would provide appropriate weight to such a mention. It's a non-notable and non-existent city that is little more than an idea that very few people seem to even be aware of, and reliable sources do not appear to warrant mentioning it on Wikipedia. - SudoGhost 02:34, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Interior map needed[edit]

This could definitely use one of those nice maps showing the incorporated and unincorporated community boundaries. -- Beland (talk) 19:29, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the template to the top of the page, and made it more specific in the hope that Georgians will see the request. 17:44, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Pre-european history[edit]

I'd like to add a few sentences about the history of this area before settlement by Ango-American colonists. I'm having trouble finding definitive sources on this topic, so I'm putting some notes here for future work. Some people claim that this area was occupied by the Muscogee (Creek) [link]. Neither the Muscogee website nor the Muscogee page details their historical lands. A map from the Five Civilized Tribes page shows the Cherokee and Muscogee (Creek) in this area, but west of the Chattahoochee (DeKalb and Fulton are to the east/south). This map shows their presence in the 1830s, which was after substantial settlement and a few wars; I assume this map shows territory that was formally recognized by the USA. A map at ARCGIS shows the Atlanta region as a vague border are between the Cherokee and Muscogee [link], but I'm not sure what is the basis for this map, and it differs from a map on the American Library Association website. The most detailed history I can find is on a genealogy website, but I have no idea how reliable the information is. A map from the Smithsonian Institute shows Muscogee occupation of this area (roughly). The Muskogee ceded a lot of territory after the Creek War of 1813, but none of it is near DeKalb; same for the Creek War of 1836. The page for the Oconee War describes Muscogee (Creek) terittory as being between "the Apalachee and North Oconee rivers"...which would barely include DeKalb county is east of DeKalb county (Barrow, Jackson, Oconee Counties). The DeKalb history center has negligible information on their website.

I was hoping this would be a simple fact to add, but it turns out to be a bit more complicated than I anticipated and I need to study up on GA geography and history. I suspect the issue is that DeKalb Co. was a border area, that was central to neither the Muscogee nor the Cherokee. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AdamChrisR (talkcontribs) 15:29, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I found the Treaty of Indian Springs, and added it. That largely resolves my concerns. It would be great to have more information about the pre-settlement history of DeKalb county, but this is probably enough information for this article.
