Nam June Paik[edit]

Why the name of the article is Paik Nam-june? User:Ejrrjs says What? 02:06, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's my motivation. I understand that Mr Kim Il-sung has the familiy name Kim first, and so does Paik Nam-june. However, Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean) states that here are a very few people whose name is written with the family name last. We should respect this preference. and his official site seems to suggest that it is the case. User:Ejrrjs says What? 07:14, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Slow down - you can't change the title of a article published elsewhere. Some cultures use the convention of the family name preceding the first name; this is one such example. Djg2006 18:34, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Before slowing me down, better read what I've said. User:Ejrrjs says What? 20:38, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As Nam June's editor for his first book, and as his collaborator over the years, and as a person who made titles for some of his TV shows, the representation in English (and German) was always "Nam June Paik". This was not a decision at the time (1974) but already well-established back to his very first publications. Rosebush 03:32, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Rosebush[reply]

Sout Korean-born American Artist??[edit]

How can you say he was an american artists when he developed so man works related to his religion (Zen Budhism) and Korean culture?

He wasn't an American-born artist; that refers to the fact that from the 60s he lived and worked in the US and would stay there until his death.thedarkestclear 21:28, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would add that Zen Buddhism, Korean culture and being American are not mutually exclusive. Djg2006 18:37, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

question mark[edit]

what awards did he get? when did he get married? blah blah blah? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.30.199.230 (talk) 00:21, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable incident with president Clinton[edit]

As seen in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o19m2UjTo9A

What section heading should this video be added in? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.60.166.85 (talk) 10:56, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Negligible and unessential material, better off without, and has been suggested by Bus stop - Youtube is not a WP:RS...Modernist (talk) 14:59, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why? It's the only thing half of today's generation will know him for, it's all I know him for, and it's all most of reddit now know him for. >_> 121.211.39.251 (talk) 00:08, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He's extremely famous within contempary art; his art and his role as a pioneer in video art are the reason for his notability. The fact that an old man's pants fell down when he was receiving an award for his life's work from the president of the United States is not what gives rise to his notability. Tone of Article is Problematic[edit]

The article reads as if it were originally written as a biography of his life to which the headings were later added. This is problematic. The contents under each heading should be about what the heading is about, and not just a continuation of his biography. I also find lines like "from there, Paik became an international celebrity, known for his creative and entertaining works" to be too subjective. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.89.84.182 (talk) 16:23, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Portapak date is wrong[edit]

The article, like many gets the dates of the Sony Portapak introduction wrong. The article states "In 1965, Sony introduced the Portapak (though it is said that Paik had a similar one before Sony released theirs[by whom?]). With this, Paik could both move and record things, for it was the first portable video and audio recorder.[8] From there, Paik became an international celebrity, known for his creative and entertaining works.[9]" In fact, it was introduced in 1967: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portapak. Paik used some video camera but it couldn't have been the Sony Portapak. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flufflesworth (talkcontribs) 17:05, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Changed importance to "top," since Paik is by no means an artist/composer/performer of "mid" importance. He is a crucial member of the Fluxus movement, and if Xenakis is a top priority, so should Paik. --Wolf m corcoran (talk) 21:07, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did Paik have any college degrees other than his B.A. from the University of Tokyo? Did he earn any subsequent degrees from Munich University or any other university? 173.88.246.138 (talk) 02:31, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
