Elvenking[edit]

Where is any proof that the unnamed Elvenking in The Hobbit is the same as Thranduil? JSoos (talk) 14:56, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unfinished Tales, "The History of Galadriel and Celeborn", where Tolkien says "ruled by princes of Sindarin descent (as was the realm of Thranduil in the northern parts of Mirkwood;...", and the same chapter's "Appendix B: The Sindarin Princes of the Silvan Elves", where it says "when a thousand years of the Third Age had passed and the Shadow fell upon Greenwood the Great [aka Mirkwood], the Silvan Elves ruled by Thranduil 'retreated before it as it spread ever northward, until at last Thranduil established his realm in the north-east of the forest and delved there a fortress and great halls underground'".
