Compared to vermilion[edit]

If vermillion is redder then Scarlet, why do the images suggest it to be the other way around? --Markornikov 17:59, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

The article says Scarlet is redder tahn vermilion - this is correct. Arcturus 18:57, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The assertion that scarlet is redder than vermilion is inconsistent with scarlet's HSV hue being 8 degrees and vermilion's being 5. S.emmerson (talk) 16:17, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

It appears that the same anti-American who moved American and British English differences to "American and English linguistic differences" moved this page a while ago, several 5-minute units before I moved it back. Georgia guy 20:29, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pop culture[edit]

It seems to me that items in the "popular culture" section not relating to the color should be moved to scarlet (disambiguation). Thoughts? PKM 21:25, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yea, too much of that stuff is unrelated to the actual color.

bible[edit]

on what planet does someone think the english word scarlet appears in hebrew exodus, or that a color reference in an ancient text could be positively identified with an actual color? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Snaxalotl (talkcontribs) 12:36, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that the article was merely attempting to cite an early historical reference to the color scarlet. The Hebrew names 'shaniy' and 'tolaath,' which are translated 'scarlet' in English versions of the Bible, refer to the insect larvae that were used in antiquity to produce scarlet dye. Recommend that the author of the earlier comment read "The Scarlet Dye of the Holy Land," Zohar Amar, Hugo Gottlieb, Lucy Varshavsky and David Iluz, BioScience, Vol. 55, No. 12 (Dec., 2005), pp. 1080-1083, University of California Press on behalf of the American Institute of Biological Sciences.71.169.252.151 (talk) 20:37, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Color of Flame[edit]

Scarlet is never known to be the color of flame. That is just stupid. That color "flame" is not related to Scarlet. In factit looks Orange. It's not a shade of scarlet at all, maybe a shade of RED, but not scarlet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.104.202.112 (talk) 15:02, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recheck Torch Red[edit]

According to cryola colors , the color Scarlet, that was originally "Torch Red" has the Hex Triplet #FC2847, which is different from the one at the article. I changed it according to the article. --Abdulrahman112 (talk) 22:41, 7 January 2013 (UTC) | Talk[reply]

Please improve or move section on variations of Scarlet[edit]

This section seems to be a catalog for crayola and other proprietary paint companies. It might be better as a separate article called "Variations of scarlet" or "shades of scarlet" as has been done for other colors. Thank you. SiefkinDR (talk) 06:39, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Following format of other color articles[edit]

The format for this article should follow that of other color articles. The info box with image should be first, with nothing above it. The list of proprietary variations should be at the bottom, not top of the article; otherwise, it will gradually become very long, and will take over the article, which was unfortunately the common practice in the past. If the list gets any longer, it should be put into a separate article, as has been done for other colors. Cordially, SiefkinDR (talk) 08:45, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Possible removal from list[edit]

An entry in List of colors: A–F contained a link to this page.

The entry is :

  • Dark scarlet

An entry in List of colors: N–Z contained a link to this page.

The entry is :

  • Tractor red

I don't see any evidence that this color is discussed in this article and plan to delete it from the list per this discussion: Talk:List_of_colors#New_approach_to_review_of_entries

If someone decides that this color should have a section in this article and it is added, I would appreciate a ping.--S Philbrick(Talk) 16:15, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dictionary definition re orange tinge[edit]

There seems to be a variation in dictionary definitions of Scarlet. With some mentioning a tinge of orange (e.g. [1]), and some not (e.g. [2]). The lede does note that the spectrum, it lies between red and orange, so in theory, it could have some orange in it. However, I am open either way as long as we reflect what is a consensus. Britishfinance (talk) 08:36, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have amended the lede to show both and added the Collins Dictionary as an additional ref. Britishfinance (talk) 08:42, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Second sentence in conflict with referenced article[edit]

The sentence states "[...] on the traditional color wheel, it is one-quarter of the way between red and orange [...]" but the referenced article shows scarlet (in an image) to the other side of red, halfway towards magenta. --2A0A:A540:6636:0:3491:93FD:4A8:DA29 (talk) 10:52, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
