Veterans' vs. Veterans[edit]

Shouldn't this be at United States Secretary of Veterans' Affairs? -- Zoe yeah whammy!!!!!!!!

The rules of grammar suggest the version with the apostrophe would be correct, but the legislation creating the Department uses both spellings. The Department seems to use mostly the "no-apostrophe" version. But if the legislators won't be consistent, we shouldn't go crazy trying to.

Revisited[edit]

It really jars with me to access a page called "United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs", but find the first words of the article are "United States Secretary of Veterans' Affairs ...".

Expansion[edit]

I think it's ridiculous that all other cabinet secretaries get extremely long articles while this one is a bit more than a stub. I wish I knew more about the American government so I could expand this myself... oh well. -- Rune Welsh ταλκ 12:51, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I absolutely agree, this article needs expanding. If nothing else, when was the Line of Sucession amended to include the new Secretary? (because, for instance, the Secretary of Homeland Security, created by W., is NOT in the line yet) Staxringold 10:54, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Amongst other edits, I removed some refs in the table. I this sort of information needn't be justified unless there is some actual reason for doubt. I note that one ref suggested a difference between different tables, but that seems to have to do with one chart not listing an end of term acting secretary. If anyone wants me to rebuild any of the refs, just let me know. I was the one who added the note and broke out the acting guys into a different table. I did this to mimic the listing at United States Secretary of the Treasury and a previous version of the State Department page. As for the references in the dates, these were added to make the article more reliable. As for the dispute: you are referring to Herschel Gober's stint in 2000-01. Different sources list him, others don't. I was just highlighting the contradictions. In hindsight, that was better for a talk page than the article.
