Hanoch Levin (18 Décembre 1943, 18 Aout 1999) est un écrivain israelien, né à Tel Aviv de parents d'origine polonaise. Il a étudié la philosophie et la littérature à l'université de Tel Aviv. Un des principaux dramaturges d'Israël, Levin a écrit 50 pièces, dont 34 ont été jouées sur scène. L'œuvre théâtrale de Levin inclut des comédies, des cabarets satiriques et des tragédies, dont il a dirigé la plupart. Il a également publié des recueils de pièces satiriques, des histoires courtes et des poésies. Il a commencé sa carrière littéraire en écrivant de la poésie, mais il a attiré une attention publique significative en 1968 avec son spectacle de cabaret " Toi, moi, et la prochaine guerre ".

Levin a servi d'auteur dramatique résident au théâtre Cameri à Tel Aviv. Il a aussi bien travaillé avec la Habima, le théâtre national d'Israël. Il a reçu de nombreuses récompenses théâtrales en Israël et à l'étranger (le festival d'Edimbourg) et ses pièces ont été mises en scène dans les festivals autour du monde.

Le statut de Levin en tant que grand satiriste du théâtre israélien demeure incontesté. Son ?uvre est manifestement rarement politique, et ses pièces traitent uniformément de la tristesse de la vie et de le bassesse de l'humanité. Il a été comparé à Jonathan Swift pour ces aspects de son oeuvre, aussi bien que pour son humeur tranchante dans le dévoilement de la grossièreté humaine. L'humiliation inhérent à la physionomie humain est un thème constant, et aucun des caractères de Levin -- oppresseurs ou opprimés -- n'est épargné. Le concept du bonheur est absurde dans sa vue du monde, où la nature humaine est déterminée par les besoins physiologiques sans visibilité. Dans toutes les pièces de Levin, soit ils sont grotesques soit qu'ils sont ancrés dans la réalité, ou des drames mythiques passés à Babylone ou à Troie, il laisse invariablement le public faire face au même paradoxe embarrassant: l'absurdité essentielle de l'existence humaine.

removal of copyvio notice[edit]

Why was the Copyvio tag notice removed? — J3ff 06:39, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Because under no circumstances could this pathetic stub be called a copyright violation. But let's start at the beginning:
  1. User A, who speaks French and possibly Hebrew, posts a one-sentence stub about Hanoch Levin written in French.
  2. User B adds the "In need of translation" tag.
  3. User C (me) translates the "article" from French into English and removes the "In need of translation" tag.
  4. User A posts a long text on Levin, not wikified, again in French, and a copyvio on top of that.
  5. User D puts up the copyvio notice and removes the French text.
  6. User C, after an edit conflict with D, reverts the article to the only English language version so far which, as it happens, is not a copyright violation. At the same time, he moves the long French text to the talk page, hoping someone might translate it into English and change it around a bit so that it could no longer be called a copyright violation.

I see. Well, don't we need some type of notice (on the actual article page) so that people know to translate/paraphrase the copyvio text on the talk page? — J3ff 22:10, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I've added a "see talk" to the stub notice. But anyway, people interested in, and knowledgeable about, Levin will see that "discussion" is not a red link and have a look, won't they? Let's wait and see! <KF> 19:08, Mar 15, 2005 (UTC)

the queen of the bathtub[edit]

I really can't see the difference between "the queen of the bathtub" an "queen of the bathtub" both phrases translate the same into hebrew. Hebrew grammar just won't allow "המלכת האמבטיה" as opposed to "מלכת האמבטיה". Shouldn't this comment be clarified.

O.K, now I can see what was meant by this comment.The original name was "מלכת אמבטיה", but if so it seems to me the right translationof the play's name would be "a queen of a bathtub". Furthermore the whole comment was translated from the hebrew original of the article which refers to a common mistake in Hebrew about the play's name among israelis. I seriously doubt if a similar mistake is found among English speakers, so I took the liberty of editing the article as follows "queen of a bathtub ("מלכת אמבטיה" but not "מלכת האמבטיה", which means "the queen of the bathtub" or "queen of the bathtub" ,as has been written many times in error)"
