Deleted material[edit]

While revising this article I have, with regret, removed the following, all contributed by User:Saxstudio in December 2009. Saxstudio noted at the time, "Additional information which I learned as his private pupil. I have about 10 hours of tape-recordings of these lessons, and his voice in inimitable, so it is verifiable", and I'm sure that's true, but I'm afraid it doesn't meet the requirements of Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources.

1. He learned everything he knew about the Saxophone by having to play it next to Walter Lear (the doyenne of Classical Saxophone of those days), who supplied him with a mouthpiece for the Alto Saxophone (which he played for the rest of his life).
2. He was an important session musician. He played Bass Clarinet on the sound-tracks of the Hammer horror movies featuring actors Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.
3. He took over leadership of the London Saxophone Quartet after the death of its founder Michael Krein, playing Soprano Saxophone ~~(which he considered the most 'Classical' of the Saxophone family).~~
4. He was virtually alone in being the complete master of both the 'Classical' and the Jazz styles. He could play Benny Goodman's style almost indistinguishably from Benny Goodman himself.
5. He was a ~~personal~~ friend of Benny Goodman. In earlier years, he played Saxophone and Clarinet in Dance Bands.

I have removed this very interesting (and I'm sure correct) material with great reluctance, but I think WP's rules require it. I'd be delighted to be told I'm wrong, but, alas, I fear I'm not. Tim riley (talk) 19:31, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would have no hesitation in removing 1 and 4, which seem to be useless trivia, either plagiarized from this or vice versa. Theoretically 2 is verifiable, if there are complete credits for the soundtracks of these movies (and it is also here). I would put that in with a cn tag. Part of 3 ought to be verifiable if there were any reviews of this quartet, or if it has a good website with history. Again, it is either copied, or vice versa, from this. Re:5 - Other than the same tribute site, I see nothing on Google that indicates that Brymer and Goodman were close friends. If you could find no indication that he played with dance bands, I agree that that should not go in. In summary, I would try to check on #3 and I would put in #2 with a cn tag. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:22, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
