Steakhouse[edit]

Blocker was principal owner of the Bonanza Steakhouse chain.

Can anyone substantiate this? I'm removing it until it can be documented. It sounds like urban legend.

If it does go back in, please put in a link to the article: "Blocker was principal owner of the Bonanza Steakhouse chain." Jdavidb (talk • contribs) 20:38, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Politics[edit]

So, we're supposed to believe that he campaigned for liberal POTUS candidates, and opposed the VN War so much that he moved his family out of the country, but that he refused a role in Dr. Strangelove because it was too liberal? I would like to see some sourcing on any of this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.238.3.10 (talk) 19:53, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This should claify this point:

Stanley Kubrick attempted to cast Blocker in his film Dr. Strangelove, after Peter Sellers backed out of playing the role of Major T.J. "King" Kong, but according to the film's co-writer, Terry Southern, Blocker's agent rejected the script as being "too pinko". The role subsequently went to Slim Pickens.

I agree this is some weird stuff. I'm removing the part about relocating to Switzerland unless someone has a solid reference for that. Batvette (talk) 09:10, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Moved from article[edit]

This was attached to the reflist, where it does not belong:

Blocker was close to 12 years old before the family moved to O'Donnell, Texas. He was born in Darden, Bowie County Texas, a community that no longer exists.

As it contradicts the "early life" section and is unreferenced, it can't simply be added there. 98.211.124.111 (talk) 13:43, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Army rank[edit]

It is highly unlikely that a draftee would make First Sargent, a rank which would take a dedicated careerist many years to achieve. Buck sarge quite possible but higher than that I doubt. Wschart (talk) 01:08, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be so certain during a war in those days. My dad was a quartermaster (QM) on a minesweeper in WW2, and made PO1 (Petty Officer First Class or E-6) in just over 2 years. When I was in the Navy in the early '80's it was uncommon to make E-6 in less than 8 years. As I understand Blocker saw combat so such quick battlefield promotion would be very possible. Batvette (talk) 09:17, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, it would be highly unlikely to beome an E-8 in Korea like that. E-6 sure. It is also ridiculous to suggest Blocker was 6'4". If you look at him next to other people, Blocker was probably 6'1" or 6'2" tops. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.49.20.187 (talk) 23:59, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

National Lampoon Parody and Advertiser Boycott[edit]

I seem to remember that after Dan Blocker's death, "National Lampoon" did a parody interview along the lines of a "Playboy" interview in which (in accordance with the Lampoon's usual questionable taste), each question was "answered" with the line:

Dan Blocker : .............

the "joke" being that since he was dead, Blocker couldn't respond to any of the questions.

My recollection is that this triggered a boycott by several companies which had previously advertised in the magazine.

Can anyone substantiate this? Thanks. Partnerfrance (talk) 16:47, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Partnerfrance: Seven years after you posted this question... Yes, this incident is mentioned in two histories of National Lampoon magazine: If You Don't Buy This Book... (Simmons) and A Futile and Stupid Gesture (Karp). Although according to those sources, it was only one company that pulled the advertising plug, because the ad executive was a friend of Blocker. Dan Blocker appearance not noted[edit]

I believe that Dan Blocker appeared in a episode of the Cheyenne series "Noose at Noon" in 1958. He is listed on the Cheyenne cast for that episode but not on his filmography list. Just noticed. 2604:2D80:E718:200:C81C:3BC7:AB49:D670 (talk) 15:13, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Blocker Store[edit]

There is no explanation for what the Blocker Store is. Can someone add it in? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:7080:102:5800:70bb:c242:2e5d:af9a (talk) 20:46, May 19, 2022 (UTC)
