The Prophet (book)[edit]

  • This article just contains the Kahlil Gibran story "The Prophet". Should be moved to Wikisource, assuming it's public domain, which I think it is. - Eisnel 05:22, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete: I'm pretty sure that The Prophet isn't at all PD, but this should be deleted in any case. When in doubt, don't send copyright to Wikisource, I guess. Geogre 19:37, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Comment Random searches give its date as "1923." I think that means it might just barely be within public domain and then again might not be, and it would take a copyright maven to decide. [[User:Dpbsmith|Dpbsmith (talk)]] 20:36, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Comment It's available from Project Gutenberg of Australia but not from Project Gutenberg. That's a red flag. The Free Expression Policy Project, whatever that is, says "Eldred was set to add a Sherwood Anderson story collection and a book of Robert Frost poems, among other works whose copyrights were about to expire, when the Sonny Bono Act delayed their entry into the public domain by 20 years.... Other plaintiffs in the case that became known as Eldred v. Ashcroft included ... Dover Publications, famous for quality reprints of public domain works. Before copyright extension, Dover planned to reprint Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet, originally published in 1923." That sounds to me as if The Prophet was exactly on the wrong side of the line and is one of the books that got snatched out of the public domain. I think we should assume it's a copyright violation unless someone proves it's not. [[User:Dpbsmith|Dpbsmith (talk)]] 22:29, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
