Cautious, this is a misnomer, surely?
Oletzko is the German transliteration of the traditional Polish Olecko, the article of which you have also created. However, during the 1930s (during which you are quoting the population figures) it was called Treuburg.

It was a district (Kreis or Landkreis) and district town (Kreisstadt), certainly not a county. Germany did not have counties in those days. A county in the English sense would have been far too large for the area so described. A county in the American sense is misleading and out of place. American counties have an historically entirely different context from the district (Kreis) in the German sense.

So, the neutral district and district town should be used. Anyway, why create a separate article Oletzko County when you should have entered all this under Olecko with a historical chronological review included in which you could have given the different names at various times as well as everything.

You haven't given details of the surrounding countryside, the lakes, where in relation to the Mazur region it is, etc. I definitely think it should all be combined under the Olecko article. And I must apprise of the fact that I shall put it up for VfD. Why not redirect this whole article to the Olecko article now? --Dieter Simon 22:51, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)

VfD[edit]

Article listed on vfd Apr 15 to Apr 20 2004, listed on Wikipedia:Duplicate articles as a result. Discussion:

* This should be merged with Olecko article. Oletzko is German transliteration of Olecko. County is wrong definition. It should be district and district town. There were no counties in German territorities. Dieter Simon 01:31, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Have merged this article Oletzko County with Olecko where I changed the para to Olecko district, the more correct designation for it as there were no German "counties" at the time when it belonged to East Prussia. --Dieter Simon 23:54, 9 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
