Toy Story[edit]

He only made $50,000 for Toy Story? When he was making over a million per episode for Home improvement, before toy story came out?

I heard on the radio that known actors doing thier first voice-over will take low dollars on the first installment, hoping to cash in on the sequel, which happened here. He got $5 million for TS2 and perhaps more for TS3.

Pure Michigan[edit]

Is Tim doing the voicework for the Pure Michigan ad campaign? That may be worth a mention somewhere. Tool2Die4 (talk) 13:23, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Separate section for the prison issue[edit]

IMHO the drugs and prison issue in the Personal life section deserves a new section. See, for example, the Winona Ryder article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winona_Ryder#2001_shoplifting_incident . What do you think? Thanks Kvsh5 (talk) 06:33, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Tragic Side of Comedy (2009)[edit]

GalaxyQuest[edit]

I have many times heard Tim sarcastically state that GQ is his "most popular role" - rolls his eyes, smirks, breaks out laughing. Not sure that there are any stats anywhere that could prove it - just because Tim got paid to say it on a special release in order to somehow boost sales ... Stand-up Comedy[edit]

I would like to suggest a correction be made to the year that Tim began his stand-up comedy career. It currently states that he began in 1975. However, according to the 'Comedy Section' on his official website found here (http://www.timallen.com/actor/comedy.php), it states that he began on March 23, 1979. Considering that there is no better source than Tim himself, making a correction just might be beneficial.

A second possible improvement to this page is to possibly expand on the story of Tim's arrest for cocaine back in 1978 at the Kalamazoo/Battlecreek International Airport. Here is a suggestion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalamazoo/Battle_Creek_International_Airport#1978_Tim_Allen_incident

His own website can not be used for that purpose, as it's considered a primary source, and it needs to be a third party reliable source. The original reference has been reviewed as valid. The first day that he performed at a known club and/or declared himself as professional is not the same thing as being the day he started. The issue surrounding the arrest has been up and down - see this talkpage (and archives of it) for past discussions. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 18:31, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There certaintly should be a section on his stand-up career. He's actually a pretty good stand-up, well known for this, and of course it is where he started out before getting into TV. For a credible source, how about http://www.timallen.com/actor/bio.php? Quote: After graduating, Tim took a job as creative director for a small advertising firm in Detroit. On a dare from a friend, he made his first stand-up appearance in 1979 at Detroit’s Comedy Castle, which he still considers his "comedy birthplace." Alright, how about: http://www.laughfactory.com/comedians/159/Tim-Allen Quote: Working at an ad agency by day, he became a regular at the Comedy Castle in the evenings. It was there that he started honing his hyper-masculine persona. He also discovered his trademark call: three ape-like, staccato grunts.... Neurolanis (talk) 00:11, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I know it's been several years. I would like to point out that under certain circumstances Tim Allen's website (a primary source) can be used about himself. Please see Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Using_the_subject_as_a_self-published_source. Make sure self-published material doesn't fall into the five categories. @Bwilkins: @Neurolanis: WhisperToMe (talk) 17:54, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am also slightly late to this discussion, but if the section "Legal issues" (what a wonderful euphemism) is correct, he was in prison for a few years starting from February 1979, which makes it unlikely that he did his first standup in March 1979. As a side note, the article is currently rather jarring if you read it in one go: here is his early life, here is his career, and oh yeah, here is his two year prison term for cocaine smuggling that we somehow forgot to mention up until now. Shouldn't it be more chronological? KarlFrei (talk) 18:21, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In the news (as a Conservative)[edit]

On his TV show, he is an intelligent but jokingly-forward Conservative. He points out to his Liberal son-in-law-to-be and his beautiful daughters his patriotic American insights. More could be said. So it is no surprised that he tweets: "How does taxing the rich help the middle class succeed?" -- It is no surprise that media makes a big deal of this. [1] -- Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 16:10, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you read the Blaze article in full, you see that Allen states that his question was just that - an open question. He wasn't criticizing liberalism or necessarily endorsing conservatism. In his nearly 25 years in show business, he has never emphatically stated his allegiance to liberalism or conservatism. The closest thing I could find is a 1996 Charlie Rose interview in which he stated he voted for Ross Perot in the '96 Election. He even said in a January 2013 interview on The View that he agrees with Lewis Black's take on the dual-party system: essentially, that the Democratic Party is a party of no ideas and that the Republican Party is a party of bad ideas. Political view[edit]

Certainly, Tim Allen revealed that he was invited to the Donald Trump's presidential inauguration ceremony and participated on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March 2017, but he did not attempt to clarify whether he would support Trump. He jusy insisted that anti-Trump groups was intolerant and told "I’m a comedian, I like going on both sides."[1] Even in the article presented as a source in Wikipedia, he is not stated to be a Trump supporter.

I think that the description in the Tim Allen#Personal life column should be rewritten to

"Legal issuess/troubles" having it's own subsection, instead of being in the "Career" section.[edit]

According to his "Career" section, it has several of his arrests info, one in 1978 and again in 1997. Is it ok if we just move all this info separately in a subsection of the article? Instead of having all that info listed in his "Career" section. Because it probably might sound a little more appropriate to have them listed on there own in a subsection of the article in his "Personal life" section, it's just that having his arrest info in his "Career" section kinda makes it sound funny, that's just my thoughts on it. Also, sorry about me editing it all back and fourth by the way and getting irritated about it, I didn't wanna cause a controversy, and I'm really sorry. 2600:1000:B055:D13:8C84:1F38:E9EC:42B6 (talk) 02:59, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think his legal problems belong in the career section as they have nothing to do with his professional work. It may be a better fit in a subheading of his personal life. Ifnord (talk) 03:09, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No Safe Spaces[edit]

Tim Allen is in the new movie No Safe Spaces. An editor objected to the listing based on this newspaper article.[2] It's a non-controversial claim that an actor is in a movie, and included a film clip of Allen in the movie. So let's just add another source,[3] as well as the clip itself.[4]. Is that sufficient? DougHill (talk) 01:50, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency with number of children[edit]

In the bio block at the top and in the personal life section, it says that he has only two daughters, one with each wife. But the section on last man standing says that he draws on his experience of having three daughters. Which is correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by R3ddr4g0n421 (talkcontribs) 21:10, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Re-read the article and reviewed sources. This sentence is extremely confusing: "The character is loosely based on his own life, as a Republican father of three girls.". Suggest re-write to "The character, a Republican father of three girls, is loosely based on his own life." R3ddr4g0n421 (talk) 18:20, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's better the first way, not the way it is suggested to be changed, because it isn't as clunky with the clause separated out by an extra comma. 131.106.185.159 (talk) 07:58, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Convinced felon/Drug dealer[edit]

After being caught with more than half a kilo of cocaine, Tim Allen faced life imprisonment in 1978. So he decided to make a deal — which eventually led to fame and fortune. Allen grew up without a father after the age of 11. Largely believed to be the cause of his early delinquency. 2600:4040:2521:A200:25AD:A882:DBA2:8031 (talk) 02:42, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Article issues and classification[edit]

The B-class criteria #1 states; The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations. It has reliable sources, and any important or controversial material which is likely to be challenged is cited., and #4, The article is reasonably well-written.
The Lee, Luaine citation, June 27, 2022, accessed in July 2022, used in the last paragraph of the "Career" section, is a permanent dead link that has not been resolved.
The "Official link", in the "External links", section is a social media platform linking page and not any sort of "official" webpage.
The links IMDb, TCM Movie Database, and AllMovie, are the same links that inundate a multitude of articles. I surmise that nobody can prove that each of these sites, apparently getting free exposure, follow ...contain further research that is accurate and on-topic, information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail, or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to its accuracy. This is the second paragraph of the lead. The third paragraph states:
Some high-value external links are welcome (see § What can normally be linked). However, the External links section should not become a lengthy or comprehensive list of external links related to each topic. No page should be linked from a Wikipedia article unless its inclusion is justifiable according to this guideline and common sense. The burden of providing this justification is on the person who wants to include an external link..
The above is supposed to be among the criteria for all links in the section but it has become accepted that the links should be in every article covered by these entities.
Three seems to be an acceptable number of links, and of course, everyone has their favorite to add making four. The problem is that none is needed for article promotion.

Some info on external links:

  • ELpoints #3) states: Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
  • LINKFARM states: There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
  • ELMIN: Minimize the number of links. --
  • ELCITE: Do not use {{cite web}} or other citation templates in the External links section. Citation templates are permitted in the Further reading section.
At any rate, there have been 5,387 revisions since 2003, having had 2,911 editors, 362 watchers, and 110,271 pageviews in 30 days, so I figured I would just present this so the article regulars could examine the section possibly making improvements for article reassessment. Lead[edit]

@Lady_Lotus please explain how MOS:FIRST is justification for your revert. The rationale that you see eludes me. Regardless, per WP:LEAD, it should “summarize the most important points, including any prominent controversies”. The current lead doesn’t mention this prominent controversy whatsoever. And looking at the current state, do we really need to include every film/tv show he’s starred in? It makes it look cluttered, and doesn’t add anything interesting. Perhaps keep any significant project which he’s received a significant award? The other, “lesser” projects can still be found in their filmography and career sections. Artificial Nagger (talk) 18:01, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Per MOS: FIRST - "try to not overload the first sentence by describing everything notable about the subject." He is not known for being a "convicted felon", he is know as an actor and comedian - he's not Pablo Escobar. Putting something that happened one time over 40 years that has no bearing on his career hardly seems necessary to put in the lead. It's talked about in his Personal life section which seems sufficient for what happened. LADY LOTUSTALK 21:12, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose I could have been more artful in adding it. However I strongly disagree that the Personal section alone “seems sufficient”. A BLP is either notable or they’re not. If multiple RS reports something, it’s fair game for inclusion. This is a poster child definition of a “prominent controversy”, and per WP:LEAD should be included. I challenge anyone to find a Biography of a person who has convicted of felony weight narcotics trafficking, served significant time in a federal prison, that doesn’t have a mention of that in their lead. Hell, Winona Ryder has a mention in the lead and that was for simple shoplifting. A subject’s “area of notability” such as their career doesn’t dictate what goes in the lead. All major (sourced) topics. The good, the bad, the boring. Will you reconsider your position on including this “prominent controversy”? It is one, right? I ask because if you are firm I’ll start an RfC, and who really needs one of those? Artificial Nagger (talk) 01:53, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just because Ryder has something mentioned in her lead doesn't mean it should be there either - WP:OTHERTHINGSEXIST. If you seek consensus for the inclusion of this one time event for Allen's lead then have at it, that's what Wikipedia is for is discussion and consensus. LADY LOTUSTALK 14:56, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the subsection talking about his car collection would someone be able to change the value of his Ferrari 330GTC from 3.4 million to about 500k, as the 330GTC is not worth anywhere near 3.4 million and a quick google search and past/current listings show the value is closer to 500k

here is the previous auction and current listing data:

https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/ferrari/330gtc

https://www.classic.com/m/ferrari/330/gtc/#:~:text=A%3A%20The%20average%20price%20of%20a%20Ferrari%20330%20GTC%20is%20%24578%2C741.

A simple google search will also yield the same information 108.49.72.125 (talk) 20:59, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

While true, various sources claim Allen's Ferrari 330GTC in specific to have a price of three to four million at least. However, none of these state why the estimate is so high.
Furthermore, isn't it possible that Allen could have modified his own car to raise its value, or that something else is going on particular to his model? Perhaps there's documentation of this.
Even still, I agree that the current references do not support the claim well.
15:04, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
I believe one source may have stated the value of his car collection rather than the Ferrari and a domino effected ensued with other sources seeing that and quoting it. its very very unlikely a modification would raise the value of a classic car, modifications diminish the value of the car. however its possible the car was a one off or owned by someone famous, yet there is no mention of this 108.49.72.125 (talk) 23:10, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the follow-up. This isn't my particular niche, but I've decided to look into it more.
After searching as much as I could, I was unable to find a primary source for this estimate or an explanation behind such a high price -- compared to how much the car is usually sold for at auctions.
