I added Prontosil and Sulfanilimide, they're very old, and interesting for that very reason. User:Ray Van De Walker

I don't have the dates handy but someone should add Isoniazid.

Isn't Salvarsan an antibiotic? If yes, it should be listed as the first antibiotic ever, appearing on the market in 1910. --130.92.9.57 17:00, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm less interested in the fact that penicillin isn't listed than I am in what the "bug" is in the Wikipedia process that led to this omission. And, no, I'm not willing to count the later inclusion of penicillin G procaine as mitigating. Jim Bowery (talk) 16:49, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question. As a medical illiterate person, I'm wondering why the list is split between 1977 and 1978? Is there a reason? Should there be a better descriptive? I googled it and found nothing explaining if something special happened between those two years? First in each class[edit]

I couldn't find a dated summary elsewhere so I've indicated some here. Incidentally the UK press is widely saying that the most recent class introduced was in 1987. [1] implies it was the Fluoroquinolones - Rod57 (talk) 00:26, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What are dates based on[edit]

Is it any marketing approval, eg non US. eg Vancomycin is noted for 1955 but its FDA approval was in 1958. - Rod57 (talk) 00:24, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the date criteria needs to be much more clear. Are the dates referencing when the drug was first discovered? Date when it was patented? Date when approved by the FDA?
