Criteria[edit]

What criteria such as population distinguishes a city from a town or a village?

Tabletop 09:03, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

This list appears to list all places in Utah, not just cities. If you look at each city individually you will see categories at the bottom that divides them into towns, cities, and CDP's (there are no villages or townships in Utah). bob rulz 20:49, Feb 19, 2005 (UTC)

Eden (Weber County)[edit]

Hello. This is a really stupid question, but I'm asking it anyways because it is relevant. Is Eden (which is in Weber County, and near Liberty and Huntsville) considered a town? I'm pretty sure it is, but I want to be 100% sure. If so, then it should be added to the list. Just thought I'd verify here so I wasn't adding something that doesn't belong in the list. Thanks.  :) --71.199.25.119 04:37, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Too many list of cities[edit]

How many list of cities do we need? Shouldn't we be merging some of these list or expand them? The one could should really be merging into another list of cities in Utah, since they carry similar information. Tavatar (talk) 20:43, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I noticed that there was another page, Largest cities in Utah by population, that is redundant with this page. As this page (List of cities and towns in Utah) is superior in content and formatting, my basic proposal is to delete the Largest cities in Utah by population, leaving this current page intact. However, I figured I'd put it up for discussion, as it seemed a little too bold to simply delete that page without discussion. So, any objections? Eric (EWS23) 02:02, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, now that I think of it, my real proposal is to redirect that page to this one, as it is a reasonable thing to type into the search engine. Eric (EWS23) 02:05, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
While I'm at it, I'm also going to add Utah locations by per capita income to the merger discussion. That page actually has more information that would potentially need to be incorporated into this page, but it doesn't currently look to be sourced. Eric (EWS23) 02:11, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure the income one came directly from the 2000 census, so would need to be updated; some of those census-designated places no longer exist. But no objections here. Ntsimp (talk) 03:33, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support the redirect of "Largest cities in Utah by population" as it is completely redundant. The "Utah locations by per capita income" is a little more difficult...
If it was just to add a "per capita income" column, then it might work. Any more columns would be too much. The per capita income page includes places that are not towns... Only 3 of the top 10 per capita places are actual towns. It also includes more columns of information. There was an AfD on [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Missouri locations by per capita income|removing Missouri's page and others] about 2 1/2 years ago. There was only one deletion vote. So, I'd say keep the per capita income page. Bgwhite (talk) 06:00, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think a merger is a great idea, using columns. GreenGlass(talk) 02:53, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for all of the responses! To me it sounds like the consensus is to keep Utah locations by per capita income (which it looks like Jajhill has already started to update a bit), and to redirect Largest cities in Utah by population to this page. I don't see any data that needs to be merged, as it's all older than the information on this page, so I will simply redirect. Thanks again! Eric (EWS23) 21:38, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Salt Lake City European?[edit]

There reads: On July 22, 1847, the first party of Mormon pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley, where they founded Salt Lake City, the first European settlement in Utah.
However, it was found by Brigham Young and few other LDS leaders. And at least Brigham Young article says he was born in Vermont, USA. Exactly how Salt Lake City is European? 82.141.73.182 (talk) 18:24, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is one of the modern ways of saying "the first settlement" without obviously ignoring the indigenous people. Ntsimp (talk) 18:50, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So it means the settlement was first by non-native Americans (sometimes also known as Indians) and the first by people of European descent? 82.141.73.182 (talk) 20:48, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Ntsimp (talk) 04:31, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
