Cause of unemployment[edit]

I looked up the economy of French Guyana to see the effects of the country being a full fledged part of France. As I understood it, this means that people get unemployment benefits that are out of proportion in the regional economies, resulting in people not having a sufficient incentive to work. Indeed, unemployment is high, but there is no mention of this cause. Does anyone know more about this? It is particularly interesting because it is an experiment of sorts; I don't know of any other country in a similar situation.

Also, all sums are in US dollars, which isn't the country's currency. But that would then have to be recalculated for the dates of all these sums, and many of them are rather out of date, so the whole page should be updated (I already updated the exchange rate to the US dollar). And the euro didn't exist yet at some of those dates. So it makes more sense for the person who is going to do this updating to also do it in euros.

More up to date info[edit]

fr:Système électrique de la Guyane contains information (sourced but in French) that should be incorporated onto this article. Both the article and the current and more recent CIA entry are out of date. Andrewa (talk) 13:26, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
