Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Goya (book)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Goya (book): No potential for an encyclopedia article. This book is no more or less relevant than any other book on Francisco Goya. The link to Amazon also appears to be a dodgy associates redirect for the benefit of someone called Chris Lowth. Also needs the link removing from the disambig page for Goya. -- Solipsist 19:12, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I've now corrected the disambiguation scheme, moving to the page Goya (disambiguation). The artist is nearly always what someone looking for just 'Goya' wants, the others are items named after the artist. -- Solipsist 22:00, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Agreed. Mikkalai 00:02, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Comment: have replaced associate link with direct Amazon link.Ianb 19:41, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Well actually they should be neither. Wikipedia doesn't favour Amazon or any other book retailer. They should just be ISBN links in the article on Francisco Goya now fixed. -- Solipsist 22:00, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Wikipedia is not a book catalog, even though it may list certain notable works. Ianb 19:41, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. There are at least two books with this name. I am turnig this page into a disambig. But IMO you are wrong about no potential. A book about a famous person is deserving. Mikkalai
    • Delete. Books do not inherit notability from their subjects. Gwalla | Talk 23:07, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep as disambiguation page. Geogre 20:41, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Unless you can write an article which is not just a review of either book, they should just be ISBN links on the main Goya page. -- Solipsist 22:00, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete Changed my vote: actually, there is Goya disambig page exactly for this. I entered the info there. Until the bokk gets a decent review, its place it there just fine. Mikkalai 20:43, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Books on famous people are normally not worthy of an article. They are often, but not always, worthy of being listed in Bibliography sections of the article on that person, perhaps with a comment on the book. Only if this becomes a famous book on Goya or a notorious book on Goya might it deserve its own article. Jallan 00:13, 12 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Books don't catch notability from their subjects. Strike the books from Goya (disambiguation) and put them on the bibliography list in Goya. Wile E. Heresiarch 08:40, 12 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete the page. Regarding books, at least one (Feuchtwanger's) of them might be famous. It's actually a biographic novel, has been translated into a lot of languages (including my native language, Latvian) and has a film made after it. I am not ready to write an article about it, but it may merit one and I would keep it on the disambig page. Andris 21:16, Sep 12, 2004 (UTC)
