Your vacation[edit]

Best wishes, as always. Sadly, the project self-selects those who support the current majority views by frustrating those who disagree. As you're aware, you are not the only one who stands for a greater degree of responsibility in the project's editorial policy. Drop a line if you feel alone -- or if you want to start a conspiracy :-). With very kindest regards, The Uninvited Co., Inc. 16:26, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you'll be back soon. The project is that much poorer when you're not around. I haven't been following events on Wikipedia closely enough to know what's upset you, but if you need support in anything, let me know. I'd hate to lose one of Wikipedia's strongest voices of reason. Isomorphic 04:51, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikivacation good! I should take one too in a bit! Please drop by when you return! There's heaps of stuff people can help with still. *yawn* <lack of sleep> :) Kim Bruning 07:21, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's sad that I've been so busy as to be this late in reaching your page. I also miss having your voice in the conversation; in a project where none of us can be everywhere at once, you're one of the people I have relied on to say the things I would want to say in the same position. If as a friend I can do anything for you, please let me know, on or off Wikipedia. --Michael Snow 20:13, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I dearly hope to see you around again soon. Yours is a voice I have missed seeing on the arbcomm, and miss in other serious discussions on the wiki. "Strong voice of reason" is exactly right. Don't think that the silence of preoccupation is a sign of disagreement; we have yet to discover a way to truly hear the voices of more than a few hundred of our ten thousand active users. +sj + 06:10, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'm looking forward to seeing your work here, again. There's no telling how long it will last, but I've discovered that a long vacation from here turns out to have been energizing; hopefully it will turn out to be the same for you. Of course, if I were a little less obsessive, I could rest and work on Wikipedia, but like so many others here, that doesn't seem to be my temperament. :-) Mkmcconn (Talk) 16:17, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks to all of you in general. Each of you in specific will receive a note from me soon to emphasize how much your good wishes mean to me. I am sorry to have been so weak an ally, and fear I will not become much more useful at any time in the near future. I am thankful, therefore, to be able to rely on the grace of such fine friends as the six of you (and a few more, I shouldn't wonder), who will no doubt forgive me my weakness, and understand my shying away from whatever battles swing in my direction. All my best, as always, Jwrosenzweig 08:15, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to my talk page[edit]

Please leave notes/questions/chastisements/haiku/concerns for me here. I will usually respond on your talk page for your convenience. Thanks, and happy editing! Jwrosenzweig

Well, you are certainly right. It's a little bit hard for you to understand the situation with the Yugoslav languages. About twenty years ago, all of them were classificed as one single language: Serbo-Croatian or Croato-Serbian. When Croatia became independent, it could promote its language - Croatian, separated from Serbian. Bosnia too. Zlatibor and Montenegro are not independent, so their languages are still classificed as parts of Serbian. Maybe you heard about the Montenegrin language? Serbs claim that it is not a real language, but a dialect of Serbian (as they claim for Zlatiborian, too, and as they claimed for Croatian and Bosnian a few years ago). It's all about politics. I'm just sad that other Wikipedians believed those Serbs. I wrote the article about Zlatiborian language. But, it was redirected to Zlatiborian speech. That's why I wanted to save the article at my User page - that's the only place where it can't be deleted or redirected, I hope. And that's why I wanted to link the page with the Zlatiborian language. However, thank you for letting me know that you've done that.

Thanks for the advice, I'll do so!

Mickey654[edit]

I noticed the note you left for Mickey654; I believe he is a reincarnation of a troll that has been vandalizing Redwolf24 and several other users over the past week. He immediately went after me, Redwolf24, and NickBush24; we just happen to be the favorite targets of the other vandal. Perhaps he should be blocked indefinately? -- Essjay · Talk 07:48, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, meant to leave a link to his contribs: Special:Contributions/Mickey654 -- Essjay · Talk 07:50, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

I think Evil Monkey permablocked all of the others; they were all of the usernameisgay/usernameisahomo/usernameisafag pattern. However, since the first place he went was Redwolf24's page, then came to mine, then went to Gay to list Red, NickBush24 (who has also been a target) and I as "see also" links, then attacked me on his page, I'm pretty convinced its the same guy; it'd have to be an awfully strange coincidence that we've been fighting a vandal with that pattern at this time of the morning for the last three or four nights.

Since he didn't make any valuable edits, and had an established vandals' editing pattern, I definately think the case can be made that he's the same vandal and falls under the permablock policy. If you'd feel better about it I'll go to ANI; I already went to Admin Intervention. (I understand the feeling; I have an RfA right now, so (hopefully) I'll be making the same kind of decisions in a week!) Honestly, he's going to be back tomorrow when the IP autoblock (yeah, his IP was autoblocked like thirty seconds after you blocked him) wears off, so it really doesn't matter if he comes back as Micky654 or as whomever-is-next-on-his-listisgay.

On the happier side, thank you for your welcome, and welcome back to you! I'd be elated to work with you on some of the theology articles, or to just chat back and forth. Feel free to drop me a message on my talk anytime! I'm definately RC-sympathetic, although I'm not technically "Protestant"; DOC is a whole other ballgame (honestly, I've never quite figured out what we are!). I look forward to hearing from you! -- Essjay · Talk 08:10, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

You know, in all my article edits, I don't think I've ever read the DOC article! I'll have to go do that! As for why I'm a schismatic and a heretic, I reject the authority of the Pope (of course I do, I'm not Catholic!) and I deny many of the Church's core teachings (again, I'm not Catholic!). I love the Church dearly, but that doesn't mean that I agree with it. As I've explained it before, DOC is on the extreme liberal wing of mainline Christianity, and I am on the extreme liberal wing of the DOC; I'm an extremely liberal liberal Christian! -- Essjay · Talk 08:20, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I read it; the only thing I think is missing is a mention that Disciples tend to be on the liberal end of the spectrum, primarly because one of the core tenets of the church is freedom of belief. From the Disciples.org site:

Freedom of belief:Disciples are called together around one essential of faith: belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Persons are free to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit study and prayer, and are expected to extend that freedom to others.

When you have a core tenet like that, you tend to attract the "free thinkers;" the vast majority (in my opinion) of DOC members oppose many of the "traditional Christian" positions, i.e. gays, abortion, marriage, etc. -- Essjay · Talk 08:34, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

Interesting. I think a section that detailed that would be a good idea--as I noted on your talk page, I think the article is far too brief on the DOC's actual position theologically. And the description you're offering does sound liberal...but much less liberal than I suggested on your talk page. I hope I didn't offend you if I overshot the mark on your theological position. Jwrosenzweig 08:37, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, you didn't offend me at all; I was just busy here pontificating. I got the dreaded "edit conflict" because I took so long!

As for the DOC's theology, well, the DOC site says it better than I can:

What do Disciples believe?

Like most Christians, Disciples affirm:

  • Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God, and offers saving grace to all
  • All persons are God’s children

Beliefs and practices usually associated with Disciples include:

  • Open Communion. The Lord’s Supper, or Communion is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all who believe in Jesus Christ.
  • Freedom of belief. Disciples are called together around one essential of faith: belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Persons are free to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit study and prayer, and are expected to extend that freedom to others.
  • Baptism by immersion. In baptism the old self-centered life is set aside, and a new life of trust in God begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored.
  • Belief in the oneness of the church. All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service.
  • The ministry of believers. Both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, service and spiritual growth.

Now, as for me, I absolutely affirm Christ's divinity; actually, I believe everything in the Nicene Creed, I just interpret it a bit differently (for example, the "one holy catholic and apostolic church" is the entire collective body of Christians, regardless of denomination). As for "Homosexuality and Christianity" yes, my liberalism does extend to the belief that homosexuality is not a sin, although my personal belief comes from revelation, not study. (Perhaps this is the appropriate point to say "I'm a gay Christian, and nobody has to tell me God made me who I am and loves me just the same, I know He does.") However, there is a great deal of scholarship to support the view; if you're interested I'll offer some for you another time.

No, this isn't a bother at all; I don't mind discussing it with a rational individual like yourself. (It's the nuts that prefer to thump their Bibles that I won't deal with.) As for a disconnect between the early Church and liberal theology, I get around it with a couple liberal beliefs:

  1. The Bible is not literal, it is a collection of texts in a variety of forms that describe events that were inspired by God, not actual words directly from God's mouth (except in some places, perhaps)
  2. The early Church was run by fallible individuals (Peter denied Jesus three times and all the Apostles deserted him, and Paul was the "chief of all sinners") so while their example and input is valuable, it is not the be-all-end-all;
  3. God is bigger than anything else, and in the (paraphrased) words of Eucharistic Prayer III: "from age to age [He] call[s] [His] people together." God's plan is constantly changing in minor ways (i.e. this person won't do what I want, so I'll get that person) and when it does, His revelation to us progresses. Our reason lets us know what God wants, and we should listen to it.
  4. God gave us reason, and He expects us to use it. Certainly, it gets some people in trouble, because they use it to decide He doesn't exist, but for those who do use it ad majorem gloriam Dei, He has greatness ahead.

And if that doesn't make me a heretic and a schismatic, then I don't know what will! -- Essjay · Talk 09:02, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

Good to hear back from you. I have a couple other things on my plate at the moment: I need to make a few articlespace edits; I put in over 400 edits yesterday and almost all of them were either new user welcomes or RC patrol. As soon as I can, I'll put together some stuff on scripture passages; I look forward to continuing the discussion. One of the things I love about Wikipedia is that anyone can ask anyone else about thier speciality, and the free exchange of information is amazing. Usually getting my "expertise" costs $30,000 a year in tuition; I enjoy being able to converse with individuals I'm not being paid to teach! : - ) -- Essjay · Talk 03:22, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

promotion[edit]

i'll see if i can dig it up. it's been a while, but if i look through the list of promotions maybe it will ring a bell. it is possible that your response was soon after that vote, but not about it specifically (been a while). at any rate, i thought it was quite well-spoken. i used to go by User:Wolfman before a longish wikibreak. just felt like a change when i came back. Derex 19:54, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I got the context mixed up a bit. Here is the discussion of yours that I liked. I guess this was while some disputed promotion of Cecropia's was still fresh in my mind (can't recall which). At any rate, I thought about it at the time in the context of that promotion, since it made clear that there was more to a promotion than just tallying up the votes. You're welcome[edit]

Welcome back! Good to know you're around again. As far as all the policy and community management goes, don't feel guilty about what you don't do. This is Wikipedia. By the way, I see you've met Essjay. I should've guessed you two would get along. He's pretty new, but I'd already noticed him as a level head and a nice guy. Isomorphic 05:38, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please, Please --- release the block![edit]

Your user name or IP address has been blocked by Jwrosenzweig.

The reason given is this: Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Mickey654". The reason given for Mickey654's block is: "User page vandalism and a personal attack after being warned".

You can email Jwrosenzweig or one of the other administrators to discuss the block. You may also edit your user talk page if you wish. If you believe that our blocking policy was violated, you may discuss the block publicly on the WikiEN-l mailing list. Note that you may not use the "email this user" feature unless you have a Wikipedia account and a valid email address registered in your user preferences.

Your IP address is 207.200.116.202. Please include this address, along with your username, in any queries you make.

____ I promise -- I am not the vandal. AOL gives many people this IP number and I am constantly being blocked from contributing. Please see my user page for the ongoing saga of this problem. Thank you for your attention. (and, no I don't know why I can edit your talk page, but not anything else). WBardwin 07:29, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just checked, and it appears you're already unblocked -- if not, let me know and I'll try to figure out what's up. So sorry for the inconvenience! Jwrosenzweig 14:53, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for checking on my request. Although I know the AOL/IP number blocks are not directed at me, I do find them increasingly annoying. But changing my provider to solve the problem is down the road, as high speed internet is not yet available in our geographic area. Appreciate your vigilence on vandalism. Hey Jwrosenzweig, I've run across this user before with regard to the same vandal; he really is innocent and should be unblocked. -- Essjay · Talk 08:09, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Images Question[edit]

Hi, I am a fairly new user and you kindly offered to help if I had questions, so here goes. I have made a series of .png files highlighting the location of each township and municipality in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. I have only uploaded and added the first four townships alphabetically so far, as I wanted to make sure I was doing this OK.

I got the map images from the US Census web site and then made a map of Lycoming County showing the township and town boundaries only from them (I could only download a map of part of the county at a time, so I stitched them together). I then highlighted the townships in red (as the PA counties are in their maps). My understanding is that since the Census maps are from the Federal Government, the maps themselves are not copyrighted, and I added a statement saying I released my modifications under the GNU Free Documentation License. Is this all I have to do? I wanted to check before I did all the others (there are over 50 total).

Here are the links (images can be found at these pages):

Thanks in advance for any advice / help you can offer, Ruhrfisch 21:06, August 2, 2005 (UTC) (still 100% sockpuppet free)

  • Thanks so much for the prompt feedback and kind praise. I should be able to get all these maps up this week, but my dread was that I had somehow done something wrong with copyright or the GNU licence and I didn't want to have to fix or redo 54 of the things. This set is probably my last of these maps for a while as our semester starts later this month, but I have other counties to work on on my mental to do list. I have also made or substantially rewritten a five or six pages but these have gotten almost no other edits (only one besides me forgetting to sign in). Anyways, thanks again, Ruhrfisch 23:53, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

Protection[edit]

Since you're on-line now could you please protect Western United States and . It seems an article war of some type is inevitable. Thanks. This would at least keep the heat on talk, which is already hot. Thanks. -JCarriker 05:43, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

There is not one yet. But DHarjo has a standing threat to POV the article if his demands aren't met- which pretty well sets the stage for one, and I'm certain he will make good on his threat per post like this one. You may also find Wikipedia:Administrators notice board#Help! and Talk:Western United States useful. If you don't feel you can protect the page at the moment I'll understand but please offer any other asistance you can, I'm at my wit's end in dealing with this guy. -JCarriker 06:27, August 4, 2005 (UTC)
A wimp you certainly are not! Quite the contrary it takes stength to decline the use of force, especially when you know you have more force than the other side. AN, arbitration, etc.[edit]

I'm glad to see your perspective on it. It's hard for me to fit that perspective into my mind, because it doesn't mesh very well with my view of the situation. I see nothing wrong with my AN discussions; I just respond to others' actions, and I figure wrong actions can do a lot more harm than wrong words. It's very hard for me to see it in a way that doesn't include the idea that others are trying to silence what I say, or have a personal grudge they are pursuing (and I think they vary on which is the case). All the reason I can put into it points me to that conclusion. But as a rule I don't like to draw conclusions unless I'm forced to, because there's no sense in trapping your mind in that box unnecessarily, since you might be wrong after all—and this especially applies when you want to assume good faith in spite of evidence. The situation forces me to draw a conclusion, though, and in that case I have to operate on the basis of the conclusion that makes the most sense. I don't know if that addresses anything—it's hard for me to discuss any of it very extensively because of my new restrictions. Everyking 10:01, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean to imply that you fell into either category. I don't think you do. What I was trying to get at was that we can construct simplistic conclusions that serve only to approach something from a certain angle, and implying the conclusion I operate on is inadequate because it can't fully account for the degree of counter-criticism I get for it, or the annoyance it seems to generate. But I haven't figured out a good way around that. Everyking 10:23, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Robert's letter to Sarah[edit]

You might want to check the discussion I had with him on his (and mine) talk page. Check his contributions, most of his edits are listed as copyvio's and he has uploaded a lot of untagged images. After our disussion he seemed to have started to write his own articles but they are about such non notable things as Ballyboden St. Enda's. But this edit is one of strangest, I agree. I've had it with this guy, but if you want to put some stuff he created on VfD, be my guest. Cheers, --R.Koot 15:00, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ed[edit]

You're right. I've just survived an RfC certified by a former arbcom member, the case apparently became a cause celebre, and my profile has risen through the roof. Now I can't act like I'm still an outsider because everybody thinks of me as an insider. I'm just getting used to this. Thanks for the reminder.

But I think I'll leave it the way I did because Wikipedia wouldn't work without Ed. If by some bizarre chance Ed were screwed by arbcom then we'd need a new Ed, and that takes someone with bollocks. --Tony SidawayTalk 22:49, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you're not suggesting that the VfD incident carries even the suggestion of departure from a very strict adherence to policy. There is no question in my mind about this. I follow policy and have never considered doing otherwise. Ambi felt that someone closing a VfD must not keep an article if nobody voted "keep". She was unequivocally wrong, an article is kept unless there is a consensus to delete. You must know that I was prepared to go to the wire on that, such was my certainty. I applied to arbcom for review of all my actions as an administrator. --Tony SidawayTalk 23:25, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh that VfD incident. For heaven's sake, it was a great move, lots of fun, and did a lot to puncture pomposity. Fuck em if they can't take a joke. --Tony SidawayTalk 23:36, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do me a favor and delete my user page and talk page. I no longer wish to contribute to this project and I really don't want to go through this hell a fifth time. - Lucky 6.9 01:11, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Jim. I stand by my decision. FWIW, another bureaucrat was going to promote me yesterday, but he'd gotten the date mixed up. I understand that 70-79% is a bureaucratic decision. 71 support votes, nearly 80 percent support and it still doesn't ring the bell? No way. No more. I just don't want to continue. Thank you, but it's just postponing the inevitable. - Lucky 6.9 01:23, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Lucky[edit]

James, a couple of messages for you at Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_adminship#Lucky_6.9. Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk) 01:37, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

The issue seems to be moot: he was promoted. Now, let us all pray that he is still with us, as we certainly don't want to lose him. -- Essjay · Talk 02:04, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

Jim, no hard feelings whatsoever. Everything has turned out for the best and I promise to wield the mop and bucket carefully. I'm looking forward to working with you and I appreciate the kind words. Stay in touch, OK? - Lucky 6.9 07:23, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

First draft[edit]

Hello[edit]

Reasonable people don't try to brush off offers to help. Reasonalbe people don't accuse people of being sockpuppets when they disagree with them or threaten to hit them over the head with a rubber bat. If JCarriker wants to start talking facts instead of rolling over people, he might find more civil talk. If he keeps it up, he can't get back anything but what he gives. Hi! Great to see you around! I noticed you put some comments on FeloniousMonks' RFA, saying you'd decide near the end. Well, The RFA ends in just a couple of hours now, so I'm kinda hoping you'd like to drop by and review.

By the way, did you know one User:Slimvirgin ? And if so, why did you never tell me about her? :-)

Syrian Rite[edit]

I am still unsure about whether there is just a plain Syrian Rite or whether it is just an Eastern Syrian Rite and a Western Syrian Rite. --Anthonymorris 23:59, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sidereal[edit]

Thank you! That's definately a step in the right direction - could I say 'I had forgotten my watch on a moonless, cloudless night, so I used the sidereal method to figure out the time'? Thanks again! Trollderella 15:30, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Category wrong[edit]

Hi, I have been working on a page on Steamtown National Historic Site. I have it listed in 'Category:U.S. National Historic Sites', but somehow it is listed under the wrong letter (under 'U', not 'S') in the list there (I can not link to this here somehow, if you go to the Steamtown page and click on the link for the category at the bottom you can see it). Anyway, I can not change the listing. Is this something administrators can fix?

Also I have all the county township maps up for Lycoming County, Pennsylvania and did Sullivan County, Pennsylvania too. I put the Sullivan Co. maps on Wikimedia Commons - is it possible to easily move the Lycoming Co maps there too? I like the mass upload there, but was not sure what would happen if I just uploaded the Lycoming Co maps again there. Thanks in advance, Ruhrfisch 19:42, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

a request for assistance[edit]

I created a Christian apologetics area. I thought it would be helpful. It has precedence as there is a Mormon apologetics subject area. It needs to be Wikied up and made to look nicer. Also, please add content.

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the help fixing the Category and explaining the pipe issue (I used to know UNIX...). I will ask my other images question as you suggested. As for no one chatting with me on my Talk page, I also don't talk to others - the whole VfD and sockpuppet accusations made me a bit skittish I guess. Maybe once I get a zillion edits... ;-) Thanks again, Ruhrfisch 00:37, August 23, 2005 (UTC)

Re:Conversation[edit]

Nothing of the sort! You were right on the head with your first guess: I've just been so very busy that I haven't had a chance to get back to it and give a proper response. (I like to look over what you've said and sketch out my points mentally before I write.) A few other matters onsite have stolen a good bit of my time, but I promise, I'll be back to it shortly! Don't worry about offending me; as long as you don't go off a la Fred Phelps, I'll be fine! ; - )

Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard[edit]

James, I have created a new project page at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard, and Secretondon suggested that I tell my fellow bureaucrats about it. It's designed as a forum where users with bureaucrat rights can discuss difficult situations, either beforehand (for advice about what to do) or after taking action (for review and feedback). It's similar to another page I created, which is starting to catch on (e.g., Jimbo used it this August): Wikipedia:account suspensions, which is not for 3RR or simple vandalism but for close calls and disputed blocks.

Please take a look at these new project pages and give some feedback. Good idea? Bad? Needs improvement? --Uncle Ed 12:24, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

Popups tool[edit]

Congratulations on being made a bureaucrat! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools#Navigation_popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is to paste the following into User:Jwrosenzweig/Archive 11/monobook.js:

// User:Lupin/popups.js - please include this line

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

popupAdminLinks=true;

Give it a try and let me know if you find any glitches or have suggestions for improvements! Lupin 02:32, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User categorization[edit]

Greetings, Jwrosenzweig! Please accept this message as an invitation to categorize your user page in the category Category:Wikipedians in Washington and removing your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Washington page. The page will be deleted when all users have been removed. Even if you do not wish to be placed in a category, could you take a moment to remove your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Washington page? Thanks!!

To add your name to the category, please use the tag to ensure proper sorting.

MedCom and Burnout[edit]

I saw your comment at the MedCom. And no, I don't fear burnout... In fact I'm in school so not at wikipedia quite as often. I clear out a day's worth of VAfD once in a while and welcome a few users, help out whoever needs it, and a lot of background tasks. I, like many admins, have been doing work in pretty much every namespace except for the main one, which takes the most work, and the... most boring? namespace to work on. I will be working on more articles when I have time to spare but my schedule is pretty much school, homework, wikipedia cleanup, sleep. And now I'm joining the football team, so that'll be less time at wikipedia. I don't fear a burnout, as I'm still in first gear ;) Redwolf24 (talk) 04:04, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request for feedback on Opus Dei article[edit]

Hi James, I just saw your name among the cardinals of Wikipedia's Catholic Church. :) I also saw your user page and liked what I read. So I thought of asking your help. You see, I've been helping to prepare the Opus Dei article for featured article status. But I need some help to see if the article is really ripe to be nominated and if not, how it can be improved. Thanks for any help you can give. :) Thomas S. Major 08:08, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

==Wikimania 2006==[edit]

Wikimania 2006[edit]

This is a reminder to all that there will be a meeting of Vancouver area Wikipedians on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. for all interested persons. We will meet in McDonald's at 897 Granville St. and Smithe in downtown Vancouver. This site was chosen simply because its central location and easy recognizability would make it easier for people who have never seen each other to find each other. Please feel free to bring additional interested people.

There are two questions to be discussed:

  1. Is there any interest for starting a Vancouver (or BC) chapter of Wikipedia?
  2. Is there enough interest and ability to make a Vancouver bid for Wikimania 2006?

Eclecticology 06:29, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I know that it's a little far for you, so I understand if you can't make it. If the idea does get off the ground we'll need all the help we can get to even get close to the show that Frankfurt put on. Help from the Seattle crowd will certainly be appreciated as we get closer to the date. Eclecticology 06:29, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, James[edit]

Thanks for the feedback, James, and the support. I'm so glad to hear your comments, especially that it is likely to be ready for FAC, and one of the best works in WP.

I just looked into the article and one of the editors, R Davidson, already removed the transition paragraph you referred to. I'll look into the short paragraphs if there is something I can do about it. I read somewhere in one of the style guides that WP recommends short paragraphs, but I will have to double-check that. I'll do the same for the bibliography and references. Well, thanks again... and I'll wait for your comments when it is nominated as FAC. Even though the editors worked on it quite harmoniously, the topic is controversial per se. So I am not so sure what to expect when it is nominated. Anyway... all for the best! Thomas S. Opus Dei article has been nominated for feature article status[edit]

Hi James,

I've already nominated the Opus Dei article for feature article status. As I expected, it encountered some bumps on the road, from people I also expected to be a bump on the road. I hope you can say a word or two on the article... Here is the link: [1] It will be a great help. Grazie mille! Thomas S. Major 08:30, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

News Again[edit]

Hey James. As the acting chairman I have reorganized RFM a lot, and assigned a case to all of our active mediators. I thought you'd want to take a look at User:Redwolf24/Bureaucrat, a nom I'll be doing in a few weeks (to try it out, I dont expect to pass... I'll run for real April 20.). Essjay has requested to become a mediator and I'd appreciate it if you voted on his and the four other Medcom requests. Thanks Dubya (:P) Redwolf24 (talk) 01:31, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

MedCom[edit]

Hello, I'm sending this message out to all users listed as inactive at WP:MC. Some of you have been on leave for quite some time, and I'm hoping one or two of you may return to active (every active editor has a case assigned). I know some of you are busy with other wikimedia stuff, like Angela Anthere and Danny, and some of you are busy with academic stuff, like MacGyverMagic and ClockworkSoul. However I still want to leave this message in the hope of perhaps getting some more of you on hand. It's by no means mandatory though, so don't worry. -Acting Chair, Redwolf24 (talk) 02:00, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
